VIEW I-87 CAMERAS →Interstate 87 spans 333 miles entirely within New York State — the longest intrastate interstate in the US. The route comprises two distinct segments: the NYS Thruway (toll) from the Bronx to Albany, and the Adirondack Northway (free) from Albany north through the Adirondacks to the Canadian border at Champlain, where it becomes Quebec Autoroute 15 heading north to Montréal. Per NYSDOT and 511NY, state traffic cameras cover the full route. The NYS Thruway Authority operates the toll portion. The Canadian border crossing at Champlain (Roosevelt Highway / Lacolle, Quebec) is one of the busiest US-Canada crossings.
I-87 Route Overview
I-87 begins at the Bruckner Interchange (I-95) in the Bronx, New York City. The first 148 miles are the NYS Thruway (toll road) north through Yonkers, Tarrytown (crossing the Hudson River via the Tappan Zee / Mario Cuomo Bridge), New Paltz, Kingston, and into Albany. At Albany, I-87 leaves the Thruway and becomes the Adirondack Northway (free from this point north) — passing through Saratoga Springs, Glens Falls, Lake George, Schroon Lake, the Adirondack Park, Plattsburgh, and on to the Canadian border.
